Living in Playa del Carmen, Mexico has made me a seasoned expert in packing for the beach.

I usually have my beach bag packed and ready to go at all times for an impromptu beach trip.

In this post, I’m sharing some of my favorite beach bag essentials and exactly what to pack for the beach.

Round Beach Blanket

The ultimate beach bag essential is a fun and colorful beach blanket.  l love the round beach blankets that are very popular right now and this vibrant pineapple print is perfect for a tropical destination.

GoPro Waterproof Camera

Anytime I’m going to the beach, I don’t leave without my GoPro Waterproof Camera, which is great for fun underwater pictures. It’s so light and compact and the also picture quality and clarity is amazing.

I love that it is waterproof up to 30 feet without the need for protective housing.  Make sure you purchase a floating hand grip just in case you accidentally drop it in the water.

Microfiber Beach Towel

These microfiber beach towels are lightweight and sand resistant.  They also dry quickly and come with a travel pouch for easy transport.

Maui Jim Ocean Sunglasses

These Maui Jim sunglasses were my first pair of designer sunglasses and I have absolutely loved them.  They’re just oversized enough and are high quality with polarized lenses.

S’well Water Bottle

I’ll admit it’s difficult for me to stay hydrated especially in Mexico where the tap water is not safe to drink.

However, an aluminum S’well water bottle has made it so much easier for me and always keeps the water ice cold even when it’s insanely hot outside.

Biodegradable Sunscreen

Before moving to Mexico, I had never really heard of biodegradable sunscreen.  I’ve now learned that that it is prohibited to use regular sunscreen on snorkeling tours, diving trips, or at cenotes

Biodegradable sunscreen is environmentally friendly and does not contain the harmful chemicals that can destroy coral reefs.

Beach Coverup

A lightweight coverup is perfect for a day at the beach.  I love this blue beach coverup with tassle embellishments. It’s easy to throw on and the lightweight fabric dries quickly.

Beach Hat

I recently bought a straw beach hat on 5th Avenue and now I don’t go to the beach without it.  Beach hats are very trendy and an easy way to protect your face and scalp from the sun.  I love this beach hat with the colorful pompoms.

SPF Lip Balm

Our lips are just as susceptible to being sunburned so this Sun Bum SPF lip balm is a great way to protect them from harmful rays.

It contains aloe and Vitamin E and pairs nicely with Sun Bum Biodegradable Sunscreen.

Compact Wetbrush

The Wetbrush has been an absolute gamechanger for me.  I have very thick hair that holds a lot of water and it used to be so painful and damaging to brush through.

The Wetbrush makes it so quick and easy and the compact version is perfect for the beach.

Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe
Texturizing Sea Salt Spray

If I want to style my hair with beachy natural waves, I use Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe Texturizing Sea Salt Spray

There is a travel size version that is perfect for use right after being in the ocean to really vamp up the waves.

Beach Read

I love a good beach read and I’ve actually read so many more books now that I live in Mexico.  My latest favorite is Becoming by Michelle Obama

I found it so empowering and learned so much about the former first lady and the struggles she faced throughout her life and career.  Even if you’re not interested in politics, she still shares inspiring life lessons.

Mosquito Repellent Bracelets

Although the hype has died down, the Zika virus is still a threat in Mexico.  These mosquito repellent bracelets are waterproof and an easy to keep mosquitos away.

These are just a few of my favorite beach bag essentials for a perfect day at the beach.  What are your go to beach products? Feel free to comment below!
