Playa del Carmen Girls Getaway Itinerary

I’m so excited I finally have my first visitors coming to stay with me in Playa! I want the weekend to be a total blast for me and my besties so I’ve put together the perfect 4 day weekend itinerary for a trip to Playa del Carmen.  It’s full of restaurant recommendations, day trips, and nightlife including plenty of beach time, margaritas, and dancing!  This itinerary is geared towards those staying in downtown Playa del Carmen but I’ve included a lot of fun restaurants and bars to try even if you’re staying at an all-inclusive resort.

Arrive to Playa del Carmen and get settled in your hotel or apartment rental.

Free time to soak up the sunshine and enjoy some margaritas by the pool.  Salud!

La Bodeguita del Medio offers free salsa dancing lessons Tuesday – Friday from 7pm – 8pm.  There’s a live salsa band and it’s a great spot for mojitos.

Billy Gin Playa is a new gin bar on 30th Street that has Ladies Night every Friday from 6pm – 10pm.

Catch is a rooftop restaurant at the Thompson Hotel Playa del Carmen.  It is a little more upscale but has great views and is a fun place for cocktails and sushi.

The majority of the nightclubs in Playa del Carmen are located on 12th Street.  It is a lively street that is always full of people.  Some of my favorites are Mandala, Abolengo, and Santito Tun Tun.  Be sure to get there early if you want to get in with no cover.

Que Huevos is the cutest breakfast restaurant near the end of 5th Avenue.  It’s a tiny spot with cute outdoor seating and offers a variety of American and Mexican dishes as well as coffee drinks and house made juices.  Note it is cash only.

Isla Mujeres is the most beautiful island off the coast of Cancun and is the perfect place for a beach day.  You can take public transportation to the ferry terminal in Cancun and head over to the island from there.  Playa Norte is so stunning and offers many options for beach clubs and restaurants.

IT Ganesha is a rooftop bar on top of the IT Hotel and Residences.  They have Ladies Night every Saturday from 8pm – 11pm.  It’s a chic rooftop with a chill atmosphere and they normally have a live DJ.

Cero Uno and Soma are chic rooftop clubs that are always packed and are known for their DJ appearances and house music.

Normally I would recommend El Ñero for tacos but El Fogon’s central location makes it a much easier stop for some tasty al pastor tacos after a night of dancing. They are open late and will most definitely be busy.

La Cueva del Chango is a popular breakfast restaurant on 5th Avenue and 38th Street which is known for its natural cave like setting. Their breakfast menu offers tasty chilaquiles, crepes, and egg dishes.

Xpu-Ha is the most stunning beach that is located about 30 minutes south of Playa del Carmen.  You can easily take a colectivo to get there and spend the day relaxing on your own or enjoying the beach clubs.

This is a lively bar that is always packed thanks to its cheap prices for food and drinks.  Everything on the menu is only $21 pesos (~$1 USD) including beer, margaritas, cocktails, tacos, and snacks.

La Famiglia is an authentic Italian restaurant that serves my favorite pizza in Playa del Carmen.  It is owned by an Italian family and they serve a wide variety of homemade pastas and Italian dishes.  It is a little bit more upscale and they have a cute upstairs seating area.

Fusion Beach Bar Cuisine is my favorite beachfront bar in Playa del Carmen for a chill night on the beach.  They offer live music and a nightly fire show starting at 11:30pm.

Aloha Paddle Club is located at Fusion Beach Bar & Cuisine at Calle 6 and the beach.  Check out their website for standup paddleboarding options and pricing information.

Chez Celine is a French bakery and breakfast restaurant located on 5th Avenue and 34 Street.  They offer a variety of breakfast options including croissants, pastries, crepes, and omelets. The menu can be found here.

A trip to Playa del Carmen wouldn’t be complete without a shopping trip down the famous 5th Avenue.  Here you can stock up on a wide variety of Mexican souvenirs, clothing, leather goods, artwork, tequila, and novelty food items.

El Doctorcito is a hip spot for agauchiles, ceviches, and fish tacos.  It is always packed and they have a live DJ playing house music.

If you’re flying from the Cancun airport, you’ll want to leave about 3 hours before your scheduled departure time.  Until next time Playa!

I’ll admit this is a pretty ambitious itinerary for a girls getaway to Playa del Carmen but there are many fun options where you can pick and choose what works best for your schedule.  If you have any questions feel free to comment below or shoot me a message.  I’m happy to help!
