Xplor Fuego Review: Activities
Let’s dive deeper into each of the thrilling activities you can expect at Xplor Fuego:
Ziplines
Soaring through the night sky of Riviera Maya on a zipline is an exhilarating experience that you won’t forget!
The ziplines are by far the best activity at Xplor Fuego, and the park offers the best ziplining in Playa del Carmen.
The park features one zip line circuit that has seven zip lines, varying in height and length, ensuring a thrilling ride above the dense jungle.

The highest point reaches up to 148 ft (45 m), providing a unique view of the theme park at night. You’ll reach speeds of up to 18mph and even get to soar through large fire ring.
And the grand finale? A refreshing splashdown into a cenote–be prepared to get wet!
The only bad thing about the ziplines is that you’ll be climbing a lot of stairs! There are suspension bridges, ramps, and stairs in between some of the ziplines, so be prepared for a workout.

Are the Xplor Fuego ziplines safe?
Yes, the Xplor Fuego ziplines are very safe. Before you begin your zipline adventure, the staff will provide a safety briefing and show you the proper way to ride.
You’ll also be fitted with a harness and helmet and they do extra safety checks on you to make sure everything is secured properly.
I’ve gone ziplining in Costa Rica where we had to wear large bird handler gloves and practically brake ourselves. It was a little scary!
At Xplor Fuego, there’s no need for gloves or braking as they have a sophisticated braking system in place. All you have to do is sit back and enjoy the ride!

Amphibious Vehicles
The ATVs at Xplor Fuego are known as amphibious vehicles and offer a bumpy, but fun ride through the jungle at night.
The vehicles are relatively easy to maneuver and can hold up to four people. The course includes several miles of dirt roads, narrow bridges, and flooded caves to explore.

The nighttime course is actually much more fun than the daytime course because it’s much longer and the fire elements add an extra excitement factor.
You’ll probably get a little muddy too as we drove through some pretty big puddles!
The ATVs at Xplor Fuego Park are really fun and go faster than you think!
Stalactite River Swim
The Stalactite River Swim is a unique experience where you’ll really get to experience the natural wonders of the Riviera Maya.
You’ll swim through underground caverns filled with stalactites and stalagmites while being surrounded by beautiful rock formations illuminated by fire torches.

I was worried about the water being pretty cold since it was nighttime but it was actually wasn’t that bad. But I would definitely recommend wearing a rash guard for added warmth!
You can choose to do the short course (~20 min) or the long course (~40 min) and the course ends under a heavy waterfall.

Rafts
The rafts at Xplor Fuego are a unique adventure that will take you river paddling through ancient caves using hand paddles.
You can choose a single or double raft, and then you’ll have to navigate through the underground caverns using only the small paddles strapped to your hands.
It’s a cool activity but probably my least favorite activity at Xplor Fuego just because it’s pretty challenging and you’ll probably be bumping into things left and right.

Hammock Splash
The Hammock Splash is a quick and fun activity that’s not too intense. There’s two circuits and you’ll definitely be getting wet!
It’s basically a short zipline where you’ll sit in a comfortable seated hammock and glide into a refreshing cenote.
This activity is great for people who might be intimidated by the higher ziplines as it’s a more relaxing experience.

Underground Expedition
The Underground Expedition challenge is a newer activity at Xplor and is supposed to be like an obstacle course through the underground caves.
To be honest though, at Xplor Fuego, it was a little disappointing. You’ll start with a water slide but it’s kind of a makeshift slide on a black tarp and wasn’t all that fast or exciting.
Then you’ll basically just walk and trek through the underground caves but there aren’t any real obstacles or challenges to overcome.
I’ve done the daytime version of the Underground Expedition at Xplor Park and it was definitely better, with a second water slide and more obstacles.
Toboganxote
Toboganxote is a thrilling new 5-in-1 waterslide attraction at Xplor Fuego, offering an adrenaline-packed adventure for groups of up to four riders.
Starting at 135 feet (41 meters) high, the ride features unique sections like the Sphere, Half Wave, Whirlpool, Whirlwind, and Wave Pool, each delivering heart-pounding twists, spins, and drops.
The journey ends with a splash into a wave pool surrounded by a relaxing beach-like setting with lounge chairs.
I haven’t been able to experience it yet but it looks pretty epic!

Xplor Fuego Review: Food and Drink
The Xplor Fuego admission ticket also includes a buffet style dinner at the Troglodita restaurant, and you can eat there whenever you want.
The buffet has a barbecue theme and you’ll find a variety of Mexican and American dishes including ribs, tacos, hamburgers, fries, pasta, pizza, salads, fruit, and desserts.
Honestly, the food at the buffet was pretty decent but nothing too special. It wasn’t bad but I didn’t feel the need to go back for seconds!

You’ll also have unlimited snacks at the “Oasis” and “Manantial” snack bars, where you can get cookies, juices, and hot chocolate.
The snack bars also next to some outdoor seating areas with bonfires so this is a fun place to relax and warm up!
You’ll also have unlimited non-alcoholic drinks at the buffet and snack bars. Due to the nature of the activities, alcohol is not served at Xplor Fuego.
Xplor Fuego Review: Amenities
Here’s more information on what to expect at Xplor Fuego in terms of amenities:
Lockers Rooms
Lockers are included in the admission price and you’ll be given a wristband with your locker key when you check-in.
The lockers are color coded and located on two levels in the “Corazon” (Heart), which is the main central hub of the park.
The Xplor Fuego lockers are large enough to hold a small backpack and you can easily return to the lockers at any time to check your phone or retrieve any belongings.

Restrooms & Changing Rooms
Gift Shops
There are multiple gift shops at Xplor Fuego, where you can find a large selection of clothing, water shoes, rash guards, and other souvenirs to commemorate your experience at Xplor Fuego.
This is also where you can purchase photo packages.
Travelista Tip: The water shoes at the Xplor Fuego gift shops are pretty expensive so I would definitely recommend purchasing some water shoes on Amazon before your trip!

Photo Pass
One of the park’s biggest takeaway is all of the unique Xplor Fuego photos! There are cameras and photo opportunities embedded all over the park to get the best high quality shots.
Tracking technology is inserted in your helmet so you’ll have to scan your wristband at the photo spots and then you’ll be able to review them all at the end of the night.
A Photo Pass can be added to your admission package upon purchase, or you can purchase them at the park gift shop on the night of your visit.
The Xplor Fuego photo package can be expensive but is a great way to capture your memories–you won’t be able to get that many great photos at night!
Travelista Tip: Save money by adding the photo package when booking your Xplor Fuego tickets online. It costs around $35 USD per person, which is a lot less than what they charge at the park!

Xplor Fuego Transportation
It’s important to know that transportation is not included in the Xplor Fuego price of admission.
To get to Xplor Fuego Playa del Carmen, you can drive there in a rental car, take a taxi, or add the round-trip transportation service to your ticket for an additional $31.50 USD per person. A free parking lot is available on site.
Most people add the transportation service for the most convenient and hassle-free option.
But if you do choose this option, be aware that transportation can only be added at the time of purchase so be sure to add transportation when you’re buying your tickets online.
Xcaret buses pick up at your hotel, resort, or a designated meeting point.
Travelista Tip: It’s quick and easy to take a taxi from Playa del Carmen to Xplor Fuego and only costs around $20 USD for up to 4 people. A taxi stand is available at the park for the return trip.

What to Wear to Xplor Fuego
Here’s what I would recommend wearing to Xplor Fuego:
- Swimsuit: You will definitely be getting wet so you’ll want to wear a swimsuit. I would recommend a one-piece swimsuit for women as it’s much more comfortable when you’re dealing with harnesses, life jackets, etc.
- Rash Guard: Since it’s nighttime, I would definitely recommend wearing a rash guard over your swimsuit for added warmth. This will make the water activities much more comfortable.
- Waterproof Shorts: YI would also recommend wearing waterproof shorts or athletic shorts over your swimsuit. This will make the zipline harness more comfortable and prevent any chafing.
- Water Shoes: Water shoes are an absolute must when visiting Xplor Fuego as closed toed shoes are required for some of the activities. Be sure to wear water shoes to protect your feet from the rocky terrain and to prevent any slips or falls.

What to Bring to Xplor Fuego
Here’s what you’ll want to bring to Xplor Fuego:
- Towel: Towels are not included at Xplor Fuego so you’ll need to bring your own to dry off at the end of the night. These microfiber beach towels are a great option because they are lightweight and dry quickly.
- Bug Spray: It’s a good idea to bring some insect repellent with you for the nighttime activities. The mosquitos can be pesky at night!
- Change of Clothes: Be sure to bring a change of dry clothes to change into at the end of the night.
- Waterproof Phone Pouch: If you plan on taking your phone with you, be sure to bring a waterproof phone pouch. You’ll need to wear it around your neck so you can be hands free on the ziplines.
- Money for Extra Purchases: The nice thing about Xplor Fuego is that pretty much everything is included but you’ll still want to bring cash or a credit card if you plan on buying the photo package or anything from the gift shops.
