Before I moved to Mexico, I never really knew anything about rash guards. But I soon found out they are an essential way to protect you from the sun.
Regular sunscreen is prohibited in many places in Mexico, including cenotes and other protected areas.
It’s best to always wear biodegradable sunscreen whenever you are swimming in the ocean or a cenote in order to protect the eco-system from harmful chemicals.
However, some areas in the Riviera Maya, like at cenotes for instance, prohibit any type of sunscreen to be worn so you’ll definitely want to wear a rash guard to protect yourself from a sunburn.
I always bring a rash guard with me on snorkeling tours and when visiting a cenote. It has been a real life saver!
