Agam Hotel Review: Location

Location Rating: 8/10

Agam Hotel is located in Bacalar, Mexico, with a convenient central location and just a few minutes’ walk to the lagoon. While it’s not located directly on Bacalar lagoon, it only takes about 5 minutes to walk there.

Overall, I thought Agam Hotel had a great location!  The area around the hotel is very quiet and safe, but there are still plenty of restaurants, bars, and convenience stores within short walking distance.

Plus, it’s only about a 10 minute walk to the main Bacalar town square and fort where the majority of shops, restaurants, and cafes are located.

It’s nice to have a car when visiting Bacalar but not absolutely necessary.  The location of Agam Hotel in the town center allows you to easily walk or you can always hire a taxi to go further distances. Plus, bike rentals are also available on the property.

Agam Hotel Bacalar Review: Rooms

Rooms Rating: 7/10

The guest rooms at Agam Hotel are clean, comfortable, and modern and come equipped with air conditioning, mini-fridges, a flat-screen TV, and in-room safes.

The queen-sized beds are a bit on the small side but they’re still comfortable with white bed linen.

The private bathrooms are large with walk-in showers and complimentary toiletries. Both bath towels and beach towels are provided, which is handy for the pool and lagoon.

The downside of the rooms is that they can be a little dark and damp from the humidity but once you turn on the AC, it’s not noticeable. Also, the free wifi works the best in the common areas so it can be a little spotty in the rooms at times.

Overall, the Agam Hotel rooms are very clean and comfortable and come with everything you need for a pleasant stay.

Agam Hotel Room Types

These are the room types at Agam Hotel:

  • Double Room: The Double Room is the basic room type with a queen-sized bed and located on the first floor with with views of the garden and pool.
  • Superior King Room: The Superior King Room is an upgraded room type with a king size bed and almost twice the size of the Double Room.
  • Deluxe Double Room: The Deluxe Double room is an upgraded room type with a king-sized bed and hot tub.

With only 13 rooms on the property, there are no rooms at Agam Hotel with 2 beds so it’s probably best suited for couples or individual travelers.

Agam Hotel Bacalar Review: Pool

Pool Rating: 8/10

The swimming pool at Agam Hotel provides a quiet jungle oasis with a refreshing outdoor pool surrounded by greenery and plush lounge beds–plus a separate lounge area under shaded trees.

It’s the perfect spot to relax and unwind after a long day of exploring or being out on the lagoon. Plus, if you get thirsty while lounging by the pool, you can just head on over to the bar and grab a beer, cocktail, or refreshing drink.

Overall, I really enjoyed the pool area and sun terrace at Agam Hotel.  It was clean, quiet, and peaceful and a relaxing place to cool off and take a dip before dinner.

The only downside to the outdoor swimming pool area is that there are only 4 lounge beds, so they tend to fill up quickly. Get there early if you want to reserve your spot!

Agam Hotel Bacalar Review: Restaurant & Bar

Restaurant Rating: 8/10

Agam Hotel has one restaurant that’s open for breakfast–and free breakfast is included in the room rate. You’ll want to get there early before the fruit and toast runs out!

The restaurant serves made-to-order hot breakfast dishes like omelets, chilaquiles, and pancakes.  Plus, the hotel offers a selection of fresh fruit, toast, coffee, and agua fresca.

I was actually really impressed with the breakfast food at Agam Hotel!  Normally, a free hotel breakfast is nothing more than a light continental buffet breakfast leaving you hungry and dissatisfied.

But the food at Agam Hotel was delicious, high quality, and beautifully prepared. Plus, the portions were large and filling!

After the breakfast wraps up, the bar is open for the rest of the day serving beers and cocktails by the pool. Overall, the service at the restaurant was very friendly and accommodating throughout our stay.

Travelista Tip: Bring a few pesos to tip the restaurant servers–they deserve it!

Agam Hotel Bacalar Review: Service

Service Rating: 9/10

Overall, I was very satisfied with the staff and service at Agam Hotel in Bacalar. The front desk staff were very welcoming, friendly, and efficient in responding to special requests.

And there’s someone there 24 hours a day so you feel safe coming and going late at night.

The front desk staff is also available to assist with making reservations for tours and boat trips on the lagoon, as well as bicycle rentals. As soon as I arrived, they sent me a message on Whatsapp with detailed information on tours and activities.

The restaurant staff was also very friendly and accommodating–quickly providing everything we needed while dining.

But perhaps one of the biggest perks of the hotel is the free bottles of cold filtered water which you can refill as much as you want–this is a real bonus when staying at hotels in Mexico!

Agam Hotel Bacalar: Value

Value Rating: 8/10

Overall, Agam Hotel is a great value for your money. While it’s not located directly on the lagoon, it’s more affordable but still within very close walking distance.

Plus, it’s close enough to all the action with lots of restaurants, shops, and the main town square nearby.

The boutique property is very new, cute, and modern with comfortable rooms that are reasonably priced and provide everything you need for an enjoyable stay.

Plus, with the hotel having its own pool, free breakfast, and complimentary bottled water, it provides a lot of great value-adds that make it worth considering.

Traveling to Mexico soon?

These are the Mexico travel resources I use and recommend:

🏨 Hotels: I always find the best deals for Mexico hotels and resorts on Expedia or Booking.com. If you prefer a vacation rental, check VRBO as they are often cheaper than AirBnB’s added fees!

✈️ Flights: I recommend using Skyscanner for the best Mexico flight deals. Be sure to sign up for their price alerts for your preferred travel dates.

🚗 Rental Cars: I like to use Discover Cars because you can compare multiple car rental companies and see detailed ratings for overall value, ease of pick-up, efficiency of agents, car condition, and overall time spent.

🚙 Cancun Airport Transportation: I recommend booking a private transfer with Cancun Airport Transportation for the quickest and most hassle-free option!

🤿 Tours & Activities: I always use Viator or GetYourGuide for booking tours and activities in Mexico. You can cancel up to 24 hours before the tour for a full refund, plus they have excellent customer service if you were to have any issues.

🚨 Travel Insurance: After my Dad broke his hand in a taxi accident in Playa del Carmen, I always recommend buying travel insurance before your trip for added peace of mind! I recommend Travel Insurance Master for short trips or Safety Wing for digital nomads.

☀️ Biodegradable Sunscreen: Don’t forget to add biodegradable sunscreen to your Mexico packing list! Regular sunscreen is prohibited when swimming in the ocean and cenotes in Mexico, so you’ll need to pack some biodegradable sunscreen for sun protection. I recommend Sun Bum Sunscreen, which is reef-friendly, vegan, and cruelty-free.
