Which Part of Isla Mujeres is Best?

Wondering where is the best place to stay in Isla Mujeres? Playa Norte is generally considered the best area to stay in Isla Mujeres.

With white sand beaches and clear turquoise waters, it is considered to be one of the best beaches in the world.

Trust me, you will not be disappointed! Plus, you are almost guaranteed to have little to no seaweed.

Playa Norte is also conveniently located close to the restaurants and shops of downtown Isla Mujeres, so you can easily grab a bite or do some shopping when you need a break from the sun.

The only downside is that this area is much more crowded.

Isla Mujeres Playa Norte

If you prefer a more quiet and tranquil atmosphere, then I would recommend staying at a hotel on the western side of the island.

This area tends to be less crowded than Playa Norte and still offers nice Isla Mujeres beaches with stunning views and calm waters.

Plus, you can easily grab a taxi or hire a golf cart rental in Isla Mujeres to explore the island, Punta Sur (the southern tip of Isla Mujeres), and experience all the fun things to do in Isla Mujeres

Golf Cart Rental Isla Mujeres

Additionally, if you choose to stay at one of the hotels on Isla Mujeres on the eastern side of the island, be aware that these beaches offer breathtaking views, but they are mostly rocky with strong waves and are not ideal for swimming.

However, they’re still worth exploring if you want to get a different perspective of Isla Mujeres.

Staying in Isla Mujeres: FAQs

Here are the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about where to stay on Isla Mujeres:

Is it worth staying in Isla Mujeres?

Isla Mujeres is definitely worth visiting if you’re looking for a place to relax and enjoy some stunning beaches.

The island is home to world-renowned beaches, crystal-clear waters, and plenty of fun activities to keep you busy. Plus, it’s one of the few places in Riviera Maya with little to no seaweed.

Whether you’re looking for a romantic getaway, solo retreat, or action-packed vacation, Isla Mujeres has something to offer everyone.

Is it better to stay in Isla Mujeres or Cancun?

When comparing Isla Mujeres vs Cancun, it really depends on what you’re looking for. If you want a calm and relaxing beach vacation, Isla Mujeres is the place for you.

The beaches in Isla Mujeres are beautiful and free of seaweed, and the overall vibe is very laid back.

However, if you’re looking for more action and nightlife, Cancun is a better choice. It’s also easier to reach Riviera Maya excursions from Cancun.

Is Isla Mujeres a party island?

Isla Mujeres is not a party island. Many visitors come to Isla Mujeres to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and enjoy some rest and relaxation.

While the island does have a few bars, the Isla Mujeres nightlife is pretty non-existent and it is not typically considered a party destination.

So, if you’re looking for a place to party all night long, Isla Mujeres is probably not the best choice. But if you’re looking for a relaxed atmosphere, Isla Mujeres is very safe and laid back.

What’s the difference between Isla Mujeres and Costa Mujeres?

Isla Mujeres is a small island off the coast of Cancun, while Costa Mujeres is a relatively new resort area on the mainland just north of Cancun.

Both are popular tourist destinations, but they offer different experiences. Isla Mujeres is known for its laid-back atmosphere and beautiful beaches, while Costa Mujeres boasts luxury resorts with closer access to all of the action in Cancun’s hotel zone.

Isla Mujeres Playa Norte

Final Thoughts: Where to Stay in Isla Mujeres

Are you ready to visit Isla Mujeres?! I hope this Isla Mujeres hotel guide was helpful in choosing the best place to stay in Isla Mujeres for you.

If it’s your first time to Isla Mujeres, then I would recommend checking out the Playa Norte Isla Mujeres hotels–this beach is truly the star of the show and shouldn’t be missed!

My top recommendation is Casa del Jaguar Beach Hotel–it’s a cute boutique luxury hotel located right in the heart of Playa Norte.

But if you want a little more rest and relaxation, then choose a hotel on the quieter western side of the island for a relaxing retreat.

The island of Isla Mujeres is so beautiful with a laid back tropical vibe that you’re sure to have an incredible time no matter which hotel you choose.

🇲🇽 Traveling to Mexico soon?

These are the Mexico travel resources I use and recommend:

🏨 Hotels: I always find the best deals for Mexico hotels and resorts on Expedia or Booking.com. If you prefer a vacation rental, check VRBO as they are often cheaper than AirBnB’s added fees!

✈️ Flights: I recommend using Skyscanner for the best Mexico flight deals. Be sure to sign up for their price alerts for your preferred travel dates.

🚗 Rental Cars: I recommend using Discover Cars because you can compare multiple car rental companies and see detailed ratings for overall value, ease of pick-up, efficiency of agents, car condition, and overall time spent.

🚙 Cancun Airport Transportation: I recommend booking a private transfer with Cancun Airport Transportation for the quickest and most hassle-free option!

🤿 Tours & Activities: I always use Viator or GetYourGuide for booking tours and activities in Mexico. You can cancel up to 24 hours before the tour for a full refund, plus they have excellent customer service if you were to have any issues.

🚨 Travel Insurance: After my Dad broke his hand in a taxi accident in Playa del Carmen, I always recommend buying travel insurance before your trip for added peace of mind! I recommend Travel Insurance Master for short trips or Safety Wing for digital nomads.

☀️ Biodegradable Sunscreen: Don’t forget to add biodegradable sunscreen to your Mexico packing list! Regular sunscreen is prohibited when swimming in the ocean and cenotes in Mexico, so you’ll need to pack some biodegradable sunscreen for sun protection. I recommend Sun Bum Sunscreen, which is reef-friendly, vegan, and cruelty-free.
