  • 🕘 Hours: 11AM-11PM

Open daily from 11:00AM, Alessia Day Club is located at the Thompson Hotel and is my top pick for the best rooftop pool in Playa del Carmen.

It’s a little pricier but it’s the largest rooftop pool in town with sleek lounge chairs in the water, comfortable lounge beds, and private cabana rentals.

But what makes Alessia Dayclub so impressive is the killer rooftop views! The rooftop overlooks the ocean and you’ll have amazing views of the entire town.

Often hosting special events, the Thompson Hotel is known for its rooftop pool parties and is a popular spot for Mexico bachelorette parties.

On weekends, there is a live DJ starting at 12:00PM, which makes it a lively rooftop for drinking but probably not the best place if you want to relax.

You can enjoy drinks in the pool, or just chill out on the daybeds or dining tables. Plus, they often have a live DJ spinning house music.

I really like Be Roof because it is one of the less well-known rooftops bars in Playa del Carmen and is more frequented by locals.

5. IT Hotel

The Marquee Playa Hotel is a small Playa del Carmen boutique hotel in the downtown area with a chic rooftop pool.

Why Visit a Playa del Carmen Rooftop Pool?

The beaches in Playa del Carmen are beautiful but can often be crowded, noisy, and offer little to no shade.

And depending on the time of year, there can often be seaweed on Playa del Carmen beaches.

At a rooftop pool, you’ll likely have an umbrella and comfortable lounge chair, along with endless food and beverage service.

As much as I love the beach, I do find rooftop pools to be a bit more of a relaxing experience.

How Do Rooftop Pools in Playa del Carmen Work?

Most of the rooftop pools are located on top of hotels in Playa del Carmen

Even if you’re not a hotel guest, you can still purchase a day pass to utilize the pool facilities. This can be done directly or by booking online through Resort Pass.

Access can vary by season (i.e. the rooftop pools are more likely to be open to the public in slow season) but in my experience, I’ve always been able to visit a rooftop pool during most times of the year.

Once you arrive, tell the front desk you would like to purchase a day pass for the pool.

They will usually lead you up to the roof where you can pay and then they will give you a wristband and sometimes a towel.

🇲🇽 Traveling to Mexico soon?

These are the Mexico travel resources I use and recommend:

🏨 Hotels: I always find the best deals for Mexico hotels and resorts on Expedia or Booking.com. If you prefer a vacation rental, check VRBO as they are often cheaper than AirBnB’s added fees!

✈️ Flights: I recommend using Skyscanner for the best Mexico flight deals. Be sure to sign up for their price alerts for your preferred travel dates.

🚗 Rental Cars: I recommend using Discover Cars because you can compare multiple car rental companies and see detailed ratings for overall value, ease of pick-up, efficiency of agents, car condition, and overall time spent.

🚙 Cancun Airport Transportation: I recommend booking a private transfer with Cancun Airport Transportation for the quickest and most hassle-free option!

🤿 Tours & Activities: I always use Viator or GetYourGuide for booking tours and activities in Mexico. You can cancel up to 24 hours before the tour for a full refund, plus they have excellent customer service if you were to have any issues.

🚨 Travel Insurance: After my Dad broke his hand in a taxi accident in Playa del Carmen, I always recommend buying travel insurance before your trip for added peace of mind! I recommend Travel Insurance Master for short trips or Safety Wing for digital nomads.

☀️ Biodegradable Sunscreen: Don’t forget to add biodegradable sunscreen to your Mexico packing list! Regular sunscreen is prohibited when swimming in the ocean and cenotes in Mexico, so you’ll need to pack some biodegradable sunscreen for sun protection. I recommend Sun Bum Sunscreen, which is reef-friendly, vegan, and cruelty-free.
