I’m a travel blogger that lives in Playa del Carmen, and I’ve had plenty of time to check out all of the best breakfast restaurants in Playa del Carmen.

If you’re looking for something hearty, healthy, or local, I’ve got you covered!

In this post, I’m sharing my favorite local breakfast spots that are tasty and best of all away from the tourist traps.

Here’s my list of the best Playa del Carmen breakfast restaurants you won’t want to miss.

Best Breakfast Restaurants in Playa del Carmen Mexico

These are the best restaurants for breakfast in Playa del Carmen:

1. Ojo de Agua

Located on Avenida CTM, Ojo de Agua is a trendy Playa del Carmen breakfast restaurant and healthy food market featuring a huge menu of breakfast dishes that can be enjoyed throughout the entire day.

The restaurant also serves up natural juices, healthy smoothies, and fresh fruit waters.

With its stylish atmosphere and uniquely delicious eats, it has quickly become one of my favorite breakfast spots in Playa del Carmen.

Grab a table indoors for air conditioned seating or head to the cute outdoor patio with a tropical vibe to dine al fresco.

While Ojo de Agua features a health food market and a variety of healthy options, not everything on the menu is super healthy if you’re looking for something a little more hearty.Β

Try the giant cinnamon roll served in a skillet for a sweet breakfast treat!

πŸ“ Location: Avenida CTM entre 1a Nte y Calle Cozumel
πŸ•’ Hours: Mon–Sat from 8AM–6PM, Sunday from 8AM–5PM

Travelista Tip:Β With a solid wifi connection, Ojo de Agua is also a great spot to work in Playa del Carmen if you’re looking for a place to work remotely.

2. Mercado 30

Nestled in the heart of downtown Playa del Carmen in the residential Colonia Hollywood neighborhood, Mercado 30 is an open-air restaurant complex.

This tropical restaurant complex has a combined menu from two different Playa del Carmen restaurants–Bajo Cafe and Peace & Bowl.

Once you take a seat at Mercado 30, you can order food and drinks from either menu and are free to mix and match menu items.

It’s a colorful and trendy restaurant concept that is a popular working spot for digital nomads.

It’s important to note that there is no air conditioning at Mercado 30 but they do have plenty of large fans (and even a small plunge pool!) to keep you cool.Β

Go early to get a table as it can get very busy around lunch time.Β

Bajo Cafe

The breakfast menu at Bajo Cafe features both continental and hot breakfast items including croissants, bagels, pancakes, omelets, and egg dishes, as well as a full coffee and espresso menu.

Traditional Mexican breakfast dishes can also be found on the menu such as chilaquiles, enchiladas, and huevos rancheros.

For the best cheap breakfast in Playa del Carmen, try the breakfast combo which includes coffee, juice, and a breakfast entree for around $130 pesos!

πŸ“ Location: Calle 30 Norte entre Avenida 25 y 30
πŸ•’ Hours: Mon-Sat from 8AM–10PM (Closed Sundays)

These beautifully presented and brightly colored smoothie bowls are prepared with fresh fruit ingredients and unique power foods such as matcha, spirulina, maca, and cacao.

To drink, treat yourself to a variety of vibrantly colored healthy juices, smoothies, fresh fruit waters, and kombucha.

Vegetarian and vegan options like avocado toast and hummus bowls are available as well.Β

Other healthy dishes include matcha waffles, avocado toast, and egg dishes. Try the tropical protein waffles topped with mangos, bananas, and strawberries for a sweet and healthy treat!

Tucked away on a residential street, Aloha Raw Bar is a small restaurant with just a few tables but the Hawaiian themed decor and pink flamingo neon lights make it cozy and totally instagrammable.Β

Make sure to go early as they close daily at 2PM.

6. Fresco HΓ‘bito

Located in the middle of Playa del Carmen and just one block from the beach, Fresco HÑbito is a tropical open-air vegan restaurant serving healthy açai bowls, super food bowls, smoothies, waffles, and fresh juices.

It’s a great spot for a quick and healthy vegan breakfast in Playa del Carmen–one of my favorite breakfast dishes is the soaked oats bowl topped with apples, bananas, cinnamon, vanilla, and cacao. It is delicious and filling!

Plus, Fresco HΓ‘bito’s tropical atmosphere, casual vibe, and β€œeat more from the earth” slogans make it a fun and instagram-worthy spot to start the day.

Located towards the end of 5th Avenue, Que Huevos is one of the cutest local breakfast spots that serves some of the best breakfast dishes in Playa del Carmen.

Que Huevos is a small cafe with outdoor seating shaded by tropical palms.  The breakfast menu features a ton of classic American and Mexican dishes, as well as fresh juices, smoothies, and coffee.

My favorite breakfast dish is the avocado toast with poached eggs paired with an Horchata espresso.  But you really can’t go wrong with any of their breakfast items!

8. Nativo

Located directly across the street from the popular DAC health food store, Nativo is a popular breakfast restaurant and juice bar.

They offer jumbo smoothies and freshly blended juices which are really cheap and can be taken to go.

My favorite juice is known as the β€œAlma Grande” which is a blend of chaya (similar to spinach), pineapple, and orange. The jumbo cups are so large you’ll need two hands to carry them!

If you choose to dine inside, breakfast dishes at Nativo include traditional Mexican breakfast like chilaquiles, sopas, and made-to-order egg dishes.

You’ll also find American dishes like pancakes, french toast, and fruit and yogurt bowls.

πŸ“ Location: Avenida 30 esquina Calle 20 Nte
πŸ•’ Hours: Daily from 7:30AM–12AM

9. Pik Nik

For a traditional Mexican breakfast, head to Pik Nik, which is a cozy and colorful breakfast restaurant that just moved to a new location on 10th Street and 20th Avenue.

You’ll instantly feel Mexico’s vibrant culture with the restaurant’s colorful decor and cutely strung papel picado (paper flags).

Pik Nik is a small restaurant with outdoor covered seating and the menu offers traditional Mexican dishes like chilaquiles, huevos motuleΓ±os, enchiladas, and huevos rancheros.

For healthier options, choose the chia seed and fruit bowl or avocado toast topped with an egg.  And don’t forget a fresh green or antioxidant juice to pair with it!

10. La Ceiba de la 30

A local favorite, La Ceiba de la 30 is a small and simple restaurant located inside the colorful DAC health foods store on Avenida 30.

At La Ceiba, you’ll find mostly traditional Mexican dishes like chilaquiles and egg dishes including huevos rancheros and huevos divorciados (β€œdivorced” eggs with red and green salsa).

They’re probably best known for their variety of chilaquiles which can be ordered to your liking topped with eggs, chicken, or arrachera.

I’m personally a fan of their green chilaquiles–they are some of the best chilaquiles in Playa del Carmen!

La Ceiba is also known for their smoothie and juices, which are massive, tasty, and inexpensive.  Grab one of the many tropical juices with unique Mayan names to pair with your breakfast.

When you’re done eating a La Ceiba, stop into DAC health food store to pick up some fresh fruit, veggies, and specialty health foods you won’t find in many other places in Playa del Carmen.

11. Chez Celine

One of the few Playa del Carmen breakfast restaurants on 5th Avenue I’d recommend, Chez Celine is a French bistro and popular breakfast restaurant.

Its charming French-inspired decor and superb reputation attracts both tourists and locals, meaning there is almost always a line.  Be sure to get there early if you want to beat the crowds!

Chez Celine offers a breakfast menu as well as a full French bakery counter serving freshly prepared pastries, chocolate croissants, fruit tarts, cakes, and desserts.  The pastries are elegantly presented and almost too pretty to eat!

For a heartier meal, choose one of the many breakfast dishes including eggs, toasts, bagels, croissant sandwiches, and sweet crepes.  If you can’t decide, order one of their breakfast combos which are available until 1PM.

πŸ“ Location: 5ta Avenida esquina Calle 34 Nte
πŸ•’ Hours: Daily from 7:30AM–11PM

12. Le P’tit Shoux

Located towards the end of 5th Avenue at 56th Street, Le P’tit Shoux is one of the newest and cutest breakfast restaurants in Playa del Carmen and is operated by the same owners as the original Choux Choux restaurant.

At Le P’tit Shoux, you’ll find an earthy open air cafe offering pastries and coffee, as well as full breakfast items such as pancakes, breakfast sandwiches, egg dishes, and fruit and yogurt bowls.

My favorite breakfast dish is the french toast topped with strawberries and a huge dollop of whipped cream. It’s probably the best french toast I’ve had in Playa!

There is no air conditioning at Le P’tit Shoux but the trees and tropical atmosphere keep it cool and comfortable.

With a cool earthy vibe, it’s one of my new favorite Playa del Carmen cafes for breakfast.

Plus you can top off your breakfast with a mimosa or a bloody Mary!

14. La Cueva del Chango

La Cueva del Chango (β€œCave of the Monkey” in Spanish) has consistently been named as one of the best breakfast restaurants in Playa del Carmen and it’s easy to see why.

Its location on the trendy 38th street makes it extremely popular among both tourists and locals.

The restaurant’s most unique feature is its cave-like interior, which makes the atmosphere especially unique.

You’ll also find outdoor seating towards the back of the restaurant, which is surrounded by tropical palms and a small cenote for a totally unique jungle vibe.

With mostly Mexican breakfast dishes on the menu, La Cueva del Chango is probably best known for their chilaquiles.

My personal favorite are the chilaquiles verdes (green chilaquiles) – they are to die for!

Try to visit La Cueva del Chango during the week if you’re able as there’s almost always a wait on the weekends.

All of the food is upscale Yucatan cuisine featuring local dishes and regional specialities.

On the breakfast menu, you’ll find traditional Mexican dishes like eggs, omelets, chilaquiles, tacos, and empanadas.

But what’s unique is that all the dishes creatively enhanced with local ingredients such as chaya, edam cheese, cochinita pibil, and xcatic chili to name a few.

Plus, Amate 38’s outdoor jungle and cenote environment enhances the experience making it feel all the more authentic.

16. Lido Beach Club

Consistently known by locals as one of the best beach clubs in Playa del Carmen, Lido Beach Club is one of the best beachfront breakfast spots in Playa del Carmen.

Upon entering, you’ll be greeted by a coconut cart, string lights, and red hearts hanging from the palm trees.

While the beach area at Lido Beach Club isn’t always the best, the food is tasty, the service is fantastic, and the beachfront seating area exudes a distinct tropical charm.Β

Its fun and welcoming atmosphere has made it a local hangout for breakfast or brunch.

The breakfast menu at Lido features some elevated dishes such as superfood smoothie bowls, chilaquiles, banana pancakes, and Mexican style croque madame, to name a few.

Plus there’s a full beach bar if you want to start your day with a mimosa, bloody Mary, or frozen cocktail.
